Thailand Scenery

Here are some pictures of other things that interested us, such as flowers, jungle, and views of the sea. We chose a beachfront restaurant on the west coast of Ko Samui to watch the sun set and took about four times as many photos as shown!

Monument to the three neighbouring kings who got together to found Chiang Mai. We loved the pose: friendly and open, quite a contrast to the stateliness of conventional statuary.

Some lilies in front of the moat and old city wall of Chiang Mai.

Lots of orchids grow on the trees. It appears that people plant them in coconut shells and fasten them to tree trunks. By the time the coconut shell has disintegrated, the orchid is firmly attached to the tree.

Moonrise over Ko Samui, from the beachfront of our hotel. It was actually much redder than the picture shows. You'd really need a painting to do this justice.

This was the car we hired to drive round Koh Samui. You can't see from this photo just how precipitous the parking is here. It was also a bit of a monster to drive...

We walked for about an hour through the butterfly-filled jungle to reach this rather fun waterfall. Too far for most tourists who seemed to need to be driven.

Koh Samui Airport. Newly built but it appears to be a collection of thatched huts. This is Gate 2.
