I recently learned that one of my school teachers has died. Iain Caddell was my guidance teacher for almost all of my time at secondary school. In that role he helped me through what was at times a very difficult period for me. He always listened to people, always treated them as important, and always cared. He worked extremely hard to bring out the best in people. He always treated his pupils as individuals and people, and put people ahead of systems.
I don’t think I’ve seen him in nearly thirteen years, but it would be fair to say that I owe much of my success at school to his guidance, hard work and understanding. His sudden death, a few weeks before retirement, must be very hard for the current pupils and staff. My thoughts and prayers are with them and his family.
Iain Caddell was a great teacher whose loss will be felt by all who knew him. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
