Beautiful rain

After a long, hot, dry, sunny spell, we’re now having a period of showers – the sort of light, warm rain you don’t even mind too much getting wet in.  The garden is loving it: parsnip seedlings and young pea shoots are emerging from the ground; the broad beans are growing fast; and the builder-trampled gentians we uprooted, divided, and transplanted to the rockery (now cleared of a surfeit of ivy) are spreading and basking in their newfound freedom.

Of the plants we bought that arrived while we were away, some begonias and a couple of fuchsias didn’t survive being planted out in such dry weather.  But most of them are doing fine, and the snapdragons didn’t care at all and are growing regardless.
